Will great goaltending outweigh scoring woes for Winnipeg Jets heading into playoffs?

With the playoffs less than two weeks away, the Winnipeg Jets have a couple of glaring issues that might not be solved by the time the regular season ends.

While the team has put its six-game losing streak behind them with wins over the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames, the Jets lack scoring that can hurt them in the postseason.

During the skid, Winnipeg scored 10 goals over the six contests, and while the team has offensive weapons like Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor, it has not been able to produce at the same clip as other teams in the playoff picture.

With a Vezina Trophy winner in net like Connor Hellebuyck in net, the Jets have a capable backstop to keep them in games, but will it be enough to get them out of the first round?

On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk looked at the glaring issue with the Jets, and if it can be overcome by great goaltending.

Frank Seravalli: [Hellebuyck’s] season has been incredible. The defense, and the way they have defended, is the staple; it’s the heartbeat of the team. If you look at the rest of the league, there are only two teams that have given up less than 200 goals—it’s the Jets and [Florida] Panthers.

Here’s the thing…they just aren’t scoring enough. You look at this lineup on paper and you’re like, “What’s the problem? Why can’t they score?” Their top line has really struggled. Then, you look at the power play, you thought they kind of figured it out by bringing in Sean Monahan…it’s gone cold again. Oh, by the way, their penalty kill has been no good either. Three weaknesses that are going to be huge.
